Virtual Engagement as Caretakers

Author: Rafael (Junior Alumni)

Covid-19 has made being a caretaker a little bit difficult and things are looking different, but we cannot let that stop us. A great way for anyone anywhere to stay engaged and aware even in lockdown is through Social Media! It seems to be the new norm for many so why not take advantage!

I like to stay in touch with friends and family and try to do my own browsing on daily events going on in the rest of the world. I have found that the most important thing is to read and educate myself and repost things I think others would benefit from. There are a few Instagram pages that I follow that I recommend anyone to take a look at:

- @cove focuses on ending the reliance on plastic

- @leonardodicaprio is not only an actor but also an environmentalist that tends to shine the spotlight on things with his fame,

- UN pages like environmental protection or climate change e.g @unclimatechange or @unep are good resources to look into and share,

- @global_wildlife_conservation focuses on saving the world's species and on conversation projects which is another cool aspect to look at

These are all great pages to follow and repost and are just some examples that I personally follow. These pages tend to have their own focus and awareness with some amazing pictures and great captions.

Another way to stay engaged is by downloading the app called ‘Freerice.’ It’s a great way to educate yourself and give back, it’s a multiple-choice trivia game that with every question you get right you donate ten grains of rice to the World Food Program to help end world hunger. Fun and you are doing something to help people and one of the sustainable development goals.

If you have any recommendations of people to follow or apps to download please feel free to drop them down below in the comments! It'll be great to start a list so others can take a look at as well.
