The 35th Caretakers of the Environment International Conference will be a fully virtual conference hosted by Ireland from July 5th - July 9th 2021.

The organising committee is excited to welcome you virtually to Ireland! We are excited to present an interactive virtual conference programme that includes projects, workshops, cultural performances and more! This conference is jointly run by CEI Ireland and the CEI alumni.

The conference hosts are Andrew Cox (former CEI President/Chairman of CEI Ireland) and Laura Kelly (Senior Alumni Secretary/CEI Ireland Secretary).

A pre-conference to give a taster of what to expect at CEI 2021 will take place in March. Registration for the conference is now open and will close June 1st. So start getting together your delegation of interested students and begin thinking about your project. A delegation consists of high school students (aged 12-18) accompanied by a teacher or youth leader. Each delegation will present a project at the conference based on the conference theme.

Sustainable Communities

Working together locally and globally for a sustainable future

The theme for the conference is: Sustainable communities: working together locally and globally for a sustainable future.

“A sustainable community manages its human, natural, and financial capital to meet current needs while ensuring that adequate resources are available for future generations.  Can we adapt our community to meet the global and local changes already happening around us?

We will focus on SDG's 11 (Sustainable cities and communities), 12 (Responsible Consumption), 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life below water) and 15 (Life on land)”

There are then 3 conference sub-themes that you can structure your project around:

  1. City & Urban Areas – SDG 11 Sustainable Cities & Communities, SDG 12 Responsible Consumption & Production

  2. Countryside, Food & Agriculture – SDG 15 Life on Land, SDG 12 Responsible Consumption & Production,

  3. Coast & Water – SDG 14 Life Below Water, SDG 6 Clean Water & Sanitation

Our Logo

This years logo was designed by Jana Cox of the Senior Alumni:

“The logo represents all the things present in our communities and how they interact. We want to explore the role that transport, food, products, tourism and play in creating a sustainable community. Sustainable communities can be rural (countryside), urban (cities) or based around water (rivers and seas). We interact with the environment everyday and it is these interactions we want to share with you from Ireland and are excited to hear about from all of your countries and communities!”
